Residents

The junction outside the school.

A wide corner is a design decision somebody made once. This is how you show what the other decision looks like.

Residents

A corner is four numbers, and you can change all four.

Junction geometry is the part of a street that decides how fast a driver turns across a crossing. It is also the part nobody outside a highways team has ever been able to draw.

Corner radii you set

Tighten a corner and the drawing updates the kerb line, the crossing position and the turning path together, so the picture stays consistent with itself.

Crossings on every arm

Raised or flat, on as many arms as you want them, drawn at the width the footway actually is rather than at a width that makes the plan look tidy.

Sightlines you can see

Move the parking bay back from the corner and the drawing shows you what that buys, at the scale it is really worth.

What it makes possible

A corner everybody already argues about becomes a corner everybody can look at two versions of.

What you end up with

What comes out of it.

One image with the corner as it is on the left and as you drew it on the right — the format that travels in a newsletter, a residents' group thread, or a consultation response.

The map underneath is the real one, so the drawing starts from the street that exists rather than from a sketch of it.

Same footprint, same buildings, different geometry. Nothing about the plan needs the road to get wider.

Comparison

Against the two things people normally do.

A corner nobody can picture stays the corner it is. These are the three ways a resident actually gets a picture of it.
